Equinorm introduceert milieuvriendelijk alternatief zonder kunststof

Equinorm heeft een duurzame rijbodem ontwikkeld die volledig vrij is van kunststof. Dit is een belangrijke innovatie in de paardensport, waar traditionele rijbodems bestaan uit zand met kunststofvezels. De duurzame bodem van Equinorm wordt gemaakt van afbreekbare en gerecyclede materialen, zonder schadelijke stoffen zoals PFAS.

The surface has proven its quality in practice, with an internationally renowned show jumper recently placing a major order. “It’s fantastic to see that even elite riders are recognizing our surface as both a sustainable and high-performance alternative,” says Matthew de Zeeuw of Equinorm, based in Utrecht.
Equinorm’s riding surface is made from high-quality sand reinforced with environmentally friendly binders. This combination ensures a stable, elastic, and shock-absorbing footing. Thanks to a natural, bio-based coating, the surface also offers long-lasting durability. De Zeeuw explains: “We began developing this product because it’s becoming increasingly difficult to obtain permits for conventional surfaces. Additionally, disposing of old arenas is not only costly, but also environmentally damaging.”

Safe for Horses, Riders, and the Environment

Kunststof vezels in gangbare bodems breken nauwelijks af en kunnen bodem en grondwater vervuilen. De nieuwe bodem van Equinorm is volledig vrij van deze stoffen. “We wilden een oplossing die goed is voor mens, dier en natuur. En die hebben we gevonden”, zegt De Zeeuw.

The development process took over two years, and the first installations have now been completed. Interest has been substantial, with the first international shipment delivered to a professional rider in early June. “This proves there’s a viable and much-needed alternative.”

A Reliable and Sustainable surface

While the initial purchase price of the sustainable surface is slightly higher than that of conventional options, the long-term benefits are significant. “When traditional surfaces need replacing, the disposal costs are often high due to the presence of polluting materials. Our surface contains no harmful substances, which means lower end-of-life costs,” explains De Zeeuw. Equinorm serves the entire equestrian community—from private riders to riding schools, livery yards, top-level professionals, and show venues. “Anyone seeking a reliable and sustainable footing is welcome to get in touch.”
